Letter from the President

Letter from Christy Laggan, IBSF President:

Dear IB Parents and Families,

Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year for the International Baccalaureate Program at Pensacola High School.  The IB program continues to provide students with an exceptional educational experience that is unparalleled in our community. The purpose of this letter is to educate parents and families about the IB Support Foundation (IBSF).  IBSF is a parent volunteer board that provides a structure for direct support to the IB program. The IBSF board members and parent volunteers coordinate events and projects, advocate for the program, and provide additional financial support when necessary.

IBSF coordinates all volunteers for the IB and AP exams that take place during the school year; as well as the IB Induction, IB Recognition, and Convocation ceremonies; and many other annual IB and teacher hospitality events.  The remaining mission of IBSF is fundraising to provide financial assistance to the IB program for curriculum enhancements and supplies that are not covered in the PHS/IB budget. The Drive for Excellence is our only fundraiser.

We invite you to become involved in your child’s high school experience by becoming a member of IBSF. Membership is easy!  A donation to the Drive for Excellence results in membership in IBSF.  Please take a moment to review the Drive for Excellence brochure. You can make a donation by check or online at our website, phsibsupport.org.

Our goal this year is to have 100% IB parent participation. Membership in IBSF provides financial support that directly benefits the IB students, faculty and administration.  Last year, IBSF raised and provided over $26,000 in funding to the IB Program.   A few of the items purchased for IB last year include:

-a projector and speaker for IB music classes

-over $4000 in IB chemistry lab enhancements

-group science supplies for the senior group science project

-a graphing board for IB geometry and algebra

-French books

– French conversation practice classes to prepare for the foreign language oral exams

-updates and enhancements for the Naviance college counseling computer program,

-over $5000 for IB training for 6 subject area teachers at the national summer meeting

– IB college counselor training

-online course materials and curriculum for IB Business Management

I hope that you will choose to join IBSF and make a donation to the Drive for Excellence. Our monthly board meetings will be open and all IBSF members are welcome.  We provide ongoing communication with our membership via email, including a description of how your donated funds are being utilized. There is also a tab on the website, www.phsibsupport.org. for IBSF information and events.  There are many opportunities for parents to volunteer and get involved in PHS and IB throughout the year. We hope you will become a member of IBSF.

Thank you….and go tigers!
